The häçking was discovered over the weekend after BDO clients reported unauthorized transfers from their accounts to a man named "You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.," who is a UnionBank account holder.

Aguda said the bank will provide all relevant information to law enforcement agencies as well as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

He added that UnionBank continues to work with BDO on the häçking investigation.

"We have already frozen the money in the identified accounts in Union Bank, and we're coordinating with our counterparts with BDO on how to proceed with the frozen amount," Aguda said.

As one of the receiving banks, he said UnionBank stands in solidarity with the whole banking industry and relevant government agencies in the battle against cybercriminals.

Aguda also urged the public to be watchful and informed, and report any mule activity they come across, saying that mules are people who sell their accounts for any reason they want.

"We want to reiterate that selling bank accounts and fraudulently opening bank accounts is punishable by several criminal offenses. So, if you know of anyone selling or buying bank accounts or trying to open fraudulent bank accounts, please do report that to us as well and we will coordinate with the necessary authorities," he said.

BDO previously reported that roughly 700 customers whose accounts were compromised are being reimbursed.

Meanwhile, the central bank organized a task force to look into the häçking incident.

The task force, according to BSP Governor You do not have permission to view the full content of this post.
