The second-generation Avanza is one of the oldest models Toyota currently has in their lineup. First launched in late 2011, the mini MPV is now 10-years old and has only received multiple facelifts and updates over the years. However, it seems the automaker is getting ready to launch the next-generation MPV in the ASEAN region very soon.

Spotted at what looks to be a Toyota dealership, the third-generation Avanza no longer resembles the outgoing model it's set to replace.

Starting with its design, the MPV gets a stylish makeover thanks to a sleek pair of headlights, a bold new grille, eye-catching L-shaped foglight bezels, and a sporty front bumper. It also gets new full-width LED taillights, large wheels, and flared wheel arches. Interestingly, it sports a new 'Q' badge which suggests that this could be the new top-of-the-line variant.

Like the exterior, Toyota also gave the Avanza's interior a major makeover. Since this is supposedly the new range-topping model, it features a full-leather interior, a big touchscreen infotainment system (with a rear drop-down monitor), a leather-wrapped steering wheel complete with multi-function controls, gloss black trim pieces, push-button start, and possibly even LED ambient lighting. Last but not least, the traditional handbrake lever appears to have been replaced with an electronic parking brake (EPB) matched with an auto-hold function.

Aside from getting a new exterior and interior design, the new Avaza will also reportedly sit on the new Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA). It's essentially an extension of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that is currently being used in various models.

This could mean that the third-generation Avanza will shift from a ladder-frame design to a unibody construction. As a result, it could move from a rear-wheel-drive design to a more passenger-friendly front-wheel-drive layout.

Should that be the case, we can expect it to come with new powertrain options, too. The possible engine choices include two three-cylinder engines derived from the You do not have permission to view the full content of this post. Log in or register now.. The first is a 1.2-liter naturally-aspirated engine that makes 88 PS with 113 Nm of torque. The other engine is a 1.0-liter turbocharged motor that puts out 98 PS with 140 Nm of torque. Available transmissions could come in the form of a five-speed manual and a CVT.

With the all-new Avanza seemingly ready for its Indonesian debut, we're keeping our fingers crossed other ASEAN markets (including the Philippines) will also get the new MPV real soon. Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long for its arrival.
