Toyota's popular midsize pick-up truck just proved why it's one of the best in its segment.
Recently, the Toyota Hilux was awarded the winner of the 6th International Pick-up Award (IPUA) for 2022/2023. This was confirmed by none other than the International Van of The Year (IVOTY) who presented the award to Toyota during the Solutrans 2021 Exhibition in Lyon, France.
It wasn't an easy fight for the Toyota Hilux, however. Before being awarded, the Hilux was assessed and analyzed by an expert panel from the IVOTY. It was a close-fought election, with the Toyota Hilux emerging victorious ahead of its closest competitors, the Isuzu D-Max and the Jeep Gladiator.
According to Toyota, the Hilux was recognized for its new and powerful smooth powertrain, its handling, as well as its legendary Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR). Toyota also shared that the Hilux's ever-increasing appeal in both leisure and urban markets helped it achieve its accolades.
“With more than 50 years heritage, the Hilux has always stood for outstanding Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR) as well as very capable off-road performance. Now with the new 2020 Hilux, we have expanded the engine line-up with a new 2.8 D that offers even more refinement and power capability, allowing us to meet the needs of customers willing not only a workhorse but also a leisure vehicle. So this award is for us a recognition of all the inherent qualities of Hilux, with even more capabilities. And we would like to thank all the jury members for their recognition,” said Didiar Gambart, vice president of Toyota Motor Europe Sales, Marketing & Customer Experience.
The Toyota Hilux may already be over 50 years old, but the pick-up truck continues to learn new tricks and is one of the brand's best-selling models in the country. More importantly, the Hilux is now available with the GR Sport trim. It serves as the new top-of-the-line model in the country and has received an extensive upgrade both inside and out.
