As travel restrictions ease and the hottest summer destinations reopen, capturing moments from your much-awaited vacation is a big must. And you don't need a flashy camera to do that—just a smartphone that can take awesome pics.

Enter the Reno7 Z 5G, Oppo's latest midrange device that doesn't just snap shots worthy of the 'Gram, but is a reliable all-around phone overall. Not to mention, it's a pretty gorgeous gadget, too.

Specs and inclusion

Out of the box, the Reno7 Z comes with a USB-C charger, a 33W power brick, and a clear jelly case.

Specs-wise, it has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage—enough space for countless photos and videos. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 695 chip, making it a capable device for popular mobile games like Call of Duty: Mobile.

Design and build

In front, the phone sports a 6.43-inch display interrupted by a hole punch cutout for the 16MP front camera. Since it's tucked away on the top-left side of the screen, the camera is pretty unnoticeable.

The display can emit up to 600 nits of brightness, allowing me to scroll through social media apps even when under the sun.

Around back is the gorgeous rainbow-colored rear and the triple camera array. The phone's back is so stunning, its vibe can match your most colorful summer fits. There's also a Starry Black colorway for those who want a more minimal design.

Camera

Oppo touts the Reno7 Z as a portrait expert and I must say, it lives up to its name. The bokeh in portrait shots looks pretty natural and you can even adjust the blurriness of the photo after taking it. However, the shooting mode struggles when there are other objects in the shot—it misses out on blurring out some parts of the background.

When capturing views of skylines, I suggest turning on HDR to really get that pop of color to your photos.

While the phone churns out pasty landscapes, it can snap vibrant photos of well-lit objects like food. As you can see below, the camera captured all the colors of this scruptious dish.

The folds on the face of my pet pug are also detailed in this portrait shot.

I'm not the biggest fan of taking selfies on Android devices as some of them still have a sheen as if the beauty filter is on (even after turning it off). Selfies on the Reno7 Z look okay if not a tad pasty if you're not in good lighting conditions, so I suggest snapping pics when you're out in the sun.

One of the other camera features I enjoyed trying out was the macro mode. It enabled me to take shots of extremely fine details like glitters and sequins.

Battery life

The Reno7 Z packs a 4,500mAh battery that can last a day's trip before needing a charge. Using apps like the camera can drain the battery fast, but its 33W fast charger can power the phone back to full again in less than two hours.

In my experience, the phone's battery can last even longer than a day when I was just using it for watching videos and playing light games.

Verdict

The Reno7 Z is a stylish buddy to keep in your backpack for road trips. Its cameras and multiple shooting modes will let you take all kinds of shots while you're on vacation. In addition, the ample battery life will also stay powered for countless adventures.
