AN OPEN LETTER TO LENI SUPPORTERS
Leni and Kiko lost. Only Risa is winning. And many of the candidates in various positions who carried Leni are losing, or have already lost. LP candidates who are not even carrying the party name went down.
This is an election that can be described as a near-total wipe-out.
When your side loses big, you do not react by torching the entire country and unfriending your friends and family, blaming God, and throwing a tantrum fit that speaks of your political immaturity.
You do not expect the majority to give you space to recover. That is not the duty of the majority. The duty of the majority is to protect you from being harmed by those you have insulted these past six years, and most intensely these past six months. And frankly, no one is harassing you, and painting your houses red and green, or attacking you on the streets, or spiking your wheels, or even boycotting and ransacking your businesses. No one is threatening you to be fired from your jobs.
If at all, it is you and your sanctimonious, pompous, self-righteous a$$*s who have been attacking all of those who did not vote with you, with your threats, insults, and toxicity. And you are the ones threatening to cancel not only people, but businesses, and to restrict employment opportunities to your fellow Leni voters.
I repeat. The duty of the victors, the majority, is to protect your rights from being harmed. Your duty as the losers, the minority, is to accept and respect the decision of the majority.
That is the bitter reality of any democracy.
No one is stopping you from mobilizing to prepare for the next round. In fact, I urge you to do so. But please, learn from your mistakes. Stop blaming us, those who did not vote with you. Some of us also lost but we have graciously accepted the people's verdict. Stop throwing a tantrum fit at our expense, threatening the very fabric of democracy. The jury is out. There was no fraud. You lost in a clean and honest election.
So grow up. How can you expect your children to functionally accept Leni's loss when you yourselves can't?
The dysfunction of the young right now is your undoing. You were the ones who gave them the false illusion that Leni will win despite all the scientific warnings from surveys saying she will not. Instead of preparing them for a very possible loss, you fed them with counter-narratives like Google Trends and bogus surveys. Instead of telling them about the right of people to be different, you imaged the BBM supporters as an uneducated bunch easily led by disinformation and fake news. You practically turned your children into beings with deep prejudices against those who have different political opinions and choices. You turned them to believe every BBM supporter is a monster. In the end, you turned them into monsters.
When these things are over, you have a lot to answer for not only for the drubbing Leni and the opposition got in the polls. You have a lot to answer to and for a generation you have fed with so much hatred in their hearts that they now even question the existence of God, disrespect even their parents, and some of them are now declaring they are no longer Filipinos but simply Pacific Islanders.
All for your blinded support for someone you barely know, and who most probably does not even know you.
